Meet Shira
"Therapy isn't about fixing what's broken. It's about understanding your story and creating space for change."
Hello, I’m Shira!
I believe therapy is most effective when it feels like a genuine human connection — not a place where you're expected to have all the answers, and not a relationship built on judgment or perfection.
For over a decade, I've worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. My practice specializes in trauma and complex trauma, sexual abuse and assault recovery, religious trauma, women's mental health, and parenting support.
What continues to draw me to this work is the opportunity to help people better understand themselves. Many of us move through life carrying experiences, beliefs, and patterns that made sense at one point in time but no longer serve us in the ways they once did. Therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of those experiences, and explore new ways of moving forward.
Many of the clients I work with are carrying things that feel difficult to explain. Some are living with the lasting effects of trauma. Others feel stuck in patterns they can't seem to change. Some are navigating grief, relationship challenges, anxiety, questions of identity, or significant life transitions.
I don't believe therapy is about fixing what is broken. More often, it's about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, your experiences, and the ways those experiences continue to shape your life. From that understanding, change becomes possible.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I am trained in EMDR and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and I often incorporate creative and expressive interventions when experiences feel too difficult to fully capture in words.
In addition to my work as a therapist, I have experience in investigative work related to human trafficking and exploitation. This work has deepened my understanding of trauma, resilience, and the remarkable capacity people have to survive, adapt, and heal.
Originally from Canada and shaped by many years living and working in New York City, I now call Athens, Greece home while providing virtual therapy to clients throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Colorado.
Whether you're seeking support for yourself, your child, your relationship, or your family, I hope Little Blue Door Therapy feels like a place where you can begin.
Little Blue Door Therapy is committed to creating an inclusive, affirming, and welcoming space for all.
I welcome clients of all backgrounds, beliefs, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and relationship structures, including monogamous and consensually non-monogamous relationships.
My goal is for every client to feel respected, understood, and safe enough to engage in meaningful therapeutic work.
